Craig Macdonald is now the ghillie on the Headinch & Cambus O May beat on the river Dee in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In this video on the Waterside and Ferrar Beat he tells us about a couple of different salmon fishing tactics he likes to use when fishing in the early spring season.
Craig likes to use 14′ rods on the river Dee in the spring season and likes to use a skagit and T-Tips to get the fly down to key lies when the water is cold. The skagit offers the necessary ability to mend the fly line and hang the fly over likely taking spots.
The other outfit Craig uses is a 14′ rod combined with a Scandi line, this slow sinking line is a great searching line in pools with even flow and when the fish could be anywhere in the channel.
