Craig Macdonald is now the ghillie on the Headinch & Cambus O May beat on the river Dee in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In this video on the Waterside and Ferrar Beat he tells us about a couple of different salmon fishing tactics he likes to use when fishing in the early spring season.
Craig likes to use 14β² rods on the river Dee in the spring season and likes to use a skagit and T-Tips to get the fly down to key lies when the water is cold. Β The skagit offers the necessary ability to mend the fly line and hang the fly over likely taking spots. Β
The other outfit Craig uses is a 14β² rod combined with a Scandi line, this slow sinking line is a great searching line in pools with even flow and when the fish could be anywhere in the channel.
